Fun Ways to Celebrate Halloween as an Adult - Plus a TASTY Recipe!

Nearly everyone has fond memories of Halloween as a kid. Most people can recollect wearing fun (or scary) costumes and roaming the neighborhood with friends, gathering up more candy than you could possibly eat in the process. And what about that one house that gave out the full-size candy bars?

Though Halloween is one of the most beloved holidays (and for a good reason), many adults stop celebrating this spooky time of year once they age out of the pastime of trick-or-treating. However, we fully support the idea that adults can have just as much fun during the Halloween season, even without the pounds and pounds of candy.

You likely pay a bit more attention to your health these days than you did when you were going door to door on Halloween as a young'un. Luckily, you won't have to sacrifice any of your healthy habits to have a fun and exciting Halloween this year. In fact, some of the ingredients used in the best healthy Halloween recipes might actively make you feel even better than you did before—like turmeric, for example.

What Is Turmeric?

Turmeric is a spice derived from the Curcuma longa root. Recognizable for its bright yellow color, turmeric is commonly used to provide distinctive color and flavor to curry, mustard, cheese, and even butter. On its own, turmeric can have a slightly bitter taste, but it often mixes in smoothly with other flavors to create a complex flavor profile.

Aside from its bright color, turmeric has been used for centuries to heal. Most notably, the root contains the natural compound curcumin, which has been shown to promote a healthy inflammatory response. Another desirable health benefit is slowed aging due to the natural boosting of the SIRT1 gene.*

Black vs. Yellow Turmeric

Though traditional turmeric is yellow, an extract of the same root known as Kaempferia parviflora, or black turmeric, also has similar beneficial properties. OurYellow and Black Turmeric combines the two with Curcumin-SRâ„¢ to create the most complete turmeric supplement available today.

How to Celebrate Halloween as an Adult

If you've been missing out on Halloween festivities for years due to your healthy lifestyle, you're not alone. Luckily, going trick-or-treating and eating your weight in chocolate isn't the only way to successfully celebrate this spooky holiday. Let's explore some of the ways you can get the most out of Halloween as an adult.

Check Out a Halloween-Themed Event in your Area

Wherever you live, a wide variety of Halloween events for all ages are likely being planned or set up as we speak. This includes everything from a community haunted house at the local rec center to a massive corn maze on the outskirts of town. Plus, if you live near any amusement parks, chances are they've gone all out on decorations, themed events, and even actors designed to scare the daylights out of you.

Do a little research to find out if there are any fun Halloween events around your city you can attend. Make it an event with your friends, or take your kids along for some spooky family fun.

Host a Movie Night with Themed Cocktails

Classic Halloween movies are essential to festivities, and you don't need to be any particular age to enjoy them. Invite your neighbors and friends over for a spooky feature, and maybe even design custom cocktails based on the movie to make the event a night to remember.

Spread Some Festive Cheer to Your Neighborhood Trick-or-Treaters

Just because you might be a little too old to trick-or-treat doesn't mean you can't be a part of the fun. Trick-or-treaters need friendly adults to open the door and hand out the treats, and giving some holiday cheer can be just as fun and rewarding as receiving it. Plus, you can take the opportunity to hand out some healthier alternatives to the typical candy bars.

Indulge in Some Classic Halloween Treats

Even if Halloween candy isn't typically included in your daily diet, remember that it's okay to indulge in your favorite treats on such a special day. However, it's also important to keep in mind that even the best Halloween goodies can be healthified with ingredients like black and yellow turmeric for something that's both good and good for you.

Healthy Halloween Recipe: Healthy Pumpkin Gummies

Love gummy candy around Halloween but hate the way it makes you feel? This recipe for healthy Pumpkin gummies is for you. Here's what you'll need:

  • 1 cup full-fat coconut milk
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • ¼ cup gelatin
  • 1 tablespoon of turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • Pinch of pumpkin pie spice
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • Small pumpkin molds

Mix all ingredients together (aside from gelatin) in a high-speed blender until thoroughly combined. Add ingredients into a saucepan on medium heat and slowly add gelatin, regularly stirring and blending to break up clumps. After about five minutes, remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool. Pour mixture into pumpkin molds and refrigerate for one hour.

Though we recommend pumpkin molds due to the festive color of the yellow turmeric, feel free to use any Halloween-themed molds you like to make the batch even more exciting! These healthy gummies will satisfy your spooky sweet tooth while reducing inflammatory response at the same time. Plus, a pinch of black pepper will help to activate bioavailability for the turmeric, increasing its benefits.
