How To Celebrate Memorial Day in 2021

Memorial Day is the long weekend that signals the beginning of Summer. This usually means road trips, barbecues, and other outdoor activities we always enjoy with friends and family. However, due to recent events hanging out with large groups of people may still be a bit risky and potentially unhealthy. Regardless, you can still enjoy Memorial Day with these 5 tips.

1.   Avoid large clusters of people

It’s always safe to be with people you know are doing their part in making sure everyone stays healthy and celebrates Memorial Day safely. These are your family members and maybe even close friends. Strangers, however, are not as safe. The last thing you want to do these days is be part of large gatherings that involve people you don’t know.

Though some places are now open for groups of people, it’s always safer to obey the health and safety rules by the location or establishments, and not be within arm’s reach of anywhere with crowds or large gatherings.

2.   Do the basic safety precautions

We say safety precautions like it’s really serious, but what we mean is just on your most hygienic behavior. Wash hands regularly, avoid touching your face directly with your hands, wipe alcohol on surfaces like tables and chairs before using, and wear a face mask properly. It may seem too much, but there’s no such thing as too safe when it comes to you and your loved ones’ health.

3.   Eat immune-boosting foods

Focusing on gut healthy foods can boost your body’s ability to combat negative health effects. These are your citrus fruits (oranges, grapefruit, lemons, etc.), red bell peppers, broccoli and leafy greens, ginger, garlic, yogurt, and nuts and seeds to name a few. These foods are packed with nutrients that not only improve your body’s immune response, but also provide health benefits for overall wellness.

Here’s a simple and healthy recipe for a stronger immunity:

Spinach & Artichoke Dip Pasta

Time needed:
20 minutes
Serves 4

  • 8 ounces whole-wheat rotini
  • 1 (5 ounce) package baby spinach, roughly chopped

  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground pepper

Instructions

4.   Take immune-boosters like AHCC®

5.   You can always do something virtual

At the end of the day, you can always just do something virtual. It may not feel right (it can feel awkward for a lot of people), but the idea of Memorial Day is to be in the company of the people you care about the most, regardless of how you get together.

Takeaway…

It’s easier to celebrate Memorial Day this year than last year, especially with a lot of places opening again and allowing gatherings. However, it doesn’t mean you should let your guard down. Your health, as well as the health of those around you, is your top priority. If you do go out and celebrate Memorial Day this weekend, just remember these five safety tips so you and your loved ones are not only happy, but also strong and healthy.
