It’s National Women’s Health Week!

, |

National Women’s Health Week is May 13 – May 19 and it’s time to raise awareness. You might be asking yourself what is National Women’s Health Week and how do I get involved? National Women’s Health Week serves as a reminder to raise awareness for women’s health and to encourage women to take steps to reach their best health. Of course everyone can participate in Women’s Health Week – encourage your coworkers, mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends to make sure they are on top of their health.

So how does one take part in National Women’s Health Week? We’ve got some fun ideas on how you can take part while encouraging others to do so.

  1. Encourage your friends, family, or coworkers to join you on a lunchtime walk.
  2. Host a healthy potluck – healthy foods can also be delicious.
  3. Organize a fitness class. Reach out to a local fitness instructor and ask them to give a free yoga class in honor of National Women’s Healthy Week.
  4. Share the fun on social media with the hashtag #NWHW. Encourage your Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter friends to join the fun.

Women’s health isn’t just a one week goal and it doesn’t stop here. Focus on how you as women can improve on your health by implementing these habits into your life.

  1. Get a yearly check-up. Yearly check-up’s are important to make sure everything in your body is in order. Prevention screenings are especially important because they can save a life.
  2. Implement a workout routine. As we all know, staying active is important for our overall health. Whether you go for a morning walk or hit the gym, make sure you implement something that gets your heart going.
  3. Ditch the chips for some veggies. Incorporating some fruits and veggies to your diet is a good way to get the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. Of course some nutrients aren’t easily accessible from foods – so incorporate some supplements as well.
  4. Pay attention to your mental health. Stress and lack of sleep can not only have a toll on your mental health but it can also affect you physically. Make sure to cut out some time in your busy schedule to do something you love and that relaxes you – and of course get enough sleep!
  5. Stop the risky behavior. Cut out the bad habits from your life – such as smoking, binge drinking, and/or texting and driving. All of these things can have serious effects on your health and life.

No matter how you decide to celebrate National Women’s Health Week make sure you are raising awareness. We want everyone to be educated on the importance of overall health all year round. Make sure to comment below on how you plan on celebrating National Women’s Health Week!
