DIY Face Masks for Healthy Skin

, |

November is healthy skin month! Face masks have been trending hard lately – beauty stores and pharmacies are flooded with new face mask products, but you may not know that you can whip up a face mask with ingredients found in your kitchen. Luckily we have created a list of simple DIY face masks that you can easily make at home. This will save you both time and money and you can still reap great skin benefits. We did some research and found masks that address various conditions.

For dry skin…

  • The hydrating Avocado Mask:
    • ½ ripe avocado
    • 1 teaspoon plain organic yogurt
    • 1 teaspoon of honey

Mash the avocado until it is soft, then mix in the yogurt and honey. Apply the mixture to your face and leave on for 10-15 minutes.

To reduce pore size…

  • Egg White Mask
    • 1 egg white
    • 1 teaspoon of orange juice
    • ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder

Whisk the egg whites with orange juice and turmeric. Apply mixture to face for 15 minutes and then wash off mask with water once it is dried.

For redness…

  • The calming honey mask
    • 2 tablespoons of pure honey
    • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
    • 1 wedge of fresh lemon

Warm the honey in the microwave for a few seconds, then mix it with the cinnamon and lemon juice. Gently massage the mixture onto your face and leave it on for 15-20 minutes.

For dull skin…

  • The exfoliating brown sugar scrub mask
    • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
    • 2 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil

Combine equal parts brown sugar and coconut oil – apply it on your face in gentle circular motions, let it sink in for a few minutes, and then wash it off with warm water.

For irritated skin…

  • The oatmeal honey mask
    • 2 tablespoons of raw oats
    • 1 teaspoon of honey
    • ½ of a banana

Mash up the banana, oats and honey to create a paste. Honey has a nice grip and has anti-bacterial properties that comforts inflamed skin.

For breakouts…

  • The Blemish busting milk mask
    • 2 tablespoons of honey
    • 2 tablespoons of nutmeg
    • 2 tablespoons of milk

Let this mask sink in for 10-15 minutes before rinsing and then follow up with your favorite moisturizer.

For aging skin…

  • The anti-aging chocolate mask
    • ½ cup of cocoa powder
    • 3 tablespoons of oats
    • 4 tablespoons of cream
    • ¼ cup of honey

Apply a delicate layer to your face and leave it on for 10 minutes then gently rinse it off. Cocoa has anti-aging properties which helps the production of collagen.

Pick the mask that best fits your skin concerns – or try them all! Have some friends over, put on a movie and do a spa night. Share this blog with your family and friends so they can make these masks too.
