, |

This is the most stressful time of year, it is important to manage stress every way possible. Stress balls are an easy way to reduce stress. Playing with a stress ball can reduce tension in your body which will, in turn, reduce stress. Here are some of the other ways stress balls can improve your health:

Physical Therapy:

Using stress balls can help strengthen your arms and wrist muscles. Whether you had to an injury or simply feel weakness in your arms and wrists – having a stress ball that you squeeze daily is a great way to strengthen these muscles! Squeeze the ball daily at various intervals.

Improved Quality of Life:

Reducing stress can greatly improve the quality of your life. Reducing stress will lessen your risk of developing stress-induced health conditions. Additionally, it helps you maintain a healthy heart and improves your sleep.

Stimulate Nerves:

Squeezing a stress ball helps you utilize the muscles that are connected to nerves that head up to the brain in the limbic region – responsible for your emotions.  This works much like acupressure where the stimulation works to help another area of your body.

Distraction Device:

One way a stress ball can melt your stress is by distracting you. Playing with a stress ball can bring your attention away from difficult, anxiety inducing, or overwhelming situations.

Luckily you don’t need to go out and spend money on a stress ball to get all these health benefits – you can easily make one at home! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 balloons
  • Funnel
  • Flour
  • Scissors
  1. Take one balloon and stretch it
  2. Fill the balloon with flour using your funnel (less than 200 grams should do the job!)
  3. Tie the end of the balloon – and cut most of the neck with your scissors
  4. Stretch your second balloon over the first and tie the end to make a second layer!
  5. Now you are ready to use your stress ball - squeeze them, bounce them, toss them, squish them, and poke them until you feel better.
