Don’t Be Salty! How to Cut Back on Sodium

Our modern diet is extremely salty. Do you know the top 5 salt bombs we consume? Surprisingly enough, it's; bread, pizza, sandwiches, cold cuts, and soups! Potato chips and pretzels don't even appear on the list until the 7th spot. You may not know it, but you're very salty, and we're not talking about personalities here!

At times, we tend to reach for whatever is available and not give it much thought. Salt is widely used not just for its flavor but also because it is an excellent preservative. Having the right amount of salt is necessary and healthy. However, having too much salt in our system causes the body to try and dilute it, resulting in higher-than-normal blood pressure levels.

Today is National More Herbs, Less Salt Day, so we thought it would be fitting to teach you how to improve your health by substituting salt with herbs in your meals.

Seasonings

Seasonings include nutmeg, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, curry powder, cinnamon, and cumin. The great thing about seasoning with herbs is that they enhance any meal or recipe's flavor by adding a few taps, sprinkles, or teaspoons, depending on your preference.

While they are traditionally added to hot meals and bread, some seasonings like cinnamon can also be added to cold beverages. Cinnamon can be a healthier substitute to table sugar for those who want some sweetness in their coffee minus the guilt.

Fresh herbs

When we talk about fresh herbs, this is basil, cilantro, dill, marjoram, oregano, sage, and parsley. Many of us are familiar with these herbs as they add flavor and aroma to anything they are added to. These herbs can elevate any simple meal.

These Supplements Can Help with Blood Pressure*

Substituting salt with herbs is an excellent step forward to better overall health. Many herbs have been cited to promote heart-healthy benefits, so adding more of them into our daily diet will provide benefits beyond reducing our sodium intake. Even when doing our best, we are only human, so fill the gaps in your diet with supplements! We created two supplements to help manage blood pressure, OptiStatin CoQ10-SR and AmealBP.

OptiStatin CoQ10-SR

Statins are known to deplete the body's natural CoQ10 stores, which can reduce vitamin K2 synthesis. This can lead to lower glutathione levels, making it difficult for our immune system to fight back against harmful microbes. OptiStatin CoQ10-SR is an excellent complementary supplement for those taking statins for their blood pressure. It is formulated with vitamin D3 and K2 to address nutrient depletion.

AmealBP

AmealBP is our best supplement for directly normalizing blood pressure levels by supporting arterial flexibility. The critical ingredient in AmealBP is derived from casein, a milk protein. Upon consumption, it releases two tripeptides: Valyl-Prolyl-Proline (VPP) and Isoleucyl-Prolyl-Proline (IPP). They are made up of the three amino acid chains, proline, valine, and isoleucine. These peptides help inhibit enzymes that may cause blood pressure levels to rise, especially in the presence of sodium in our system.*
