How the QOL team Celebrates National Nutrition Month

, |

What is National Nutrition month? It is an annually celebrated nutrition education and information campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Each March during this campaign, it is encouraged to make informed food choices and develop eating and physical activity habits that you can carry out for the entirety of the year.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition and healthy living. Every person is unique with different goals, body types, backgrounds, preferences, and tastes! That is why this year’s campaign is centralized around ‘Personalizing Your Plate’. Nutrition.gov has a variety of healthy recipes to meet your personal preferences, as well as additional tips and tricks to help you navigate a healthy lifestyle.

We asked the team here at Quality of Life to share their tips and tricks about their personal nutrition and health tips that they try to follow:

“I make sure to incorporate a daily regime of vitamins and an abundance of fruits and veggies in my diet. During quarantine, my family and I have tried trying one new healthy recipe or vegetable a week. Keeping a positive mindset is also always important to overall health. ” - Megan

"I walk my dog everyday, it's the perfect way to get some fresh air and get your steps in!" - Lauren

"I love cookies but I always feel so guilty after eating them. So, in the last few months, I switched eating Oreos for home made chocolate-banana protein powder cookies. They are super easy to make, very tasty and most importantly they are a much more healthy way to satisfy my sweet tooth. " - Yoha

“Don't skip! I also follow that you should never drink your calories, but that depends on your goals. Also, make sure to remember that you are what you eat!” - Joe

“Something I have been adding to my routine is getting in a daily walk outside. It's always nice to enjoy some fresh air and take time to become more aligned with my daily tasks. Another thing I do every day is practice gratitude. Each morning I write three things I am grateful for because you can't have a healthy life without positive and uplifting words to guide you throughout the day.” - Breanne

“Find the optimal time to go to sleep so you can fall asleep fast.  This requires matching your biological clock.  As soon as you start feeling sleepy, listen to your body.  Try to stay away from carbs such as pasta and rice at dinner.  Carbs for lunch and breakfast are fine.  If you are going to end your meal with a dessert, try to stick to low sugar low carb products.  Skipping dessert is ideal.” – Dan
